A Lesson For Doubters
The Bible is the Real Truth and God is the One True God
By Donald P. Moss
Ninety seven percent of all people believe there's life after death and believe in God. Within each person there is something that reveals their life in this world is not the end of life. Why? God created each of us to be incomplete apart from Him. But, not all believe the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the one true God. There are numerous false gods, formed by the vain imaginations and philosophies of men. Many books are written to promote these false gods. Books written to increase the number of believers in their respective religions.
Which book has the real truth about God? The answer to this question is seen in the prophetic content of each religious book. Prophecy and fulfillment of prophecy at specific times cannot be written by any prophet apart from the inspiration of the one true God. Only the one true God knows the future.
If any book does not reveal the future agenda of God transforming man into His adopted son, then that book falls short of the Holy Bible's revelation. Most all religious books speak of going to heaven, but only the Bible teaches man how to be an adopted son in the family of God through faith. Only the Bible reveals man can have a close personal relationship with God. God comes to man through man's faith in His Word and man begins transformation into the kingdom of God.
The Holy Bible is the only book of prophecy that reveals the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as the one true God.
Is the Bible actually the true Word of God?
One of the most important validations for the Bible as the true Word of God is understanding the origin of the Hebrew language, including literal, figurative and implied meanings of root words. The Old Testament was written in the Hebrew language.
There was a language spoken between God and Adam. It was the same language spoken between Adam and Eve. Did the language change at a later date? After the flood when Noah and his family left the ark, there was only one language spoken at that time by Noah and each of his sons and their wives. This language was the language spoken between God and Adam and between Adam and his descendents, including Noah. It was the language of God!
The Language Has Survived the History of Man
Noah was a descendent of Adam's righteous son, Seth. Seth died 14 years before Noah's birth. Enosh, Seth's son, was 84 years old when Noah was born. Enosh lived 905 years and Noah lived 950 years. The flood occurred when Noah was 600 years old and he died 350 years later. So, Noah spent all of his pre-flood life with his father, his grandfather and five generations of Enosh. Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch (five great grandfathers), Methuselah (grandfather) and Lamech (his father) were alive at the same time as Noah was alive. I don't think the language of Noah was different from the language Adam and Eve spoke in the Garden of Eden. Why?
It would have been difficult for the ancestors' children to change the original language because the elders lived for such a long time. Forming new words in the original language would be difficult because new words would expand the language beyond the vocabulary of the elders, making the teaching of living history difficult. In the pre-flood Adamic society, "living history" was passed along by the elder's recount of the history told to them by Adam. The elders' knowledge of history was the most influential teaching element in pre-flood society. So, expanding the language by forming new words would be met with some resistance because new words would affect the elders' accurate communication of living history. Since the elders lived for such a long time, if any one of the elders varied the historical account, even slightly, there were many other elders that would rise up and correct him. So, to preserve historical integrity, the original language spoken in the garden had to remain intact.
Note: From the time parchment was invented, which allow a more reliable medium on which to record the early scriptures, the Jews' continued their commitment to keep the language intact when recording the Mosaic Law and the prophets. When the parchment began to deteriorate at a later time, two scribes selected by those overseeing the preservation of the manuscripts to make an additional copy. This was considered a most holy endeavor. They would dress in proper attire because this was considered a sacred event. One scribe would write the copy and the other scribe would oversee his work to make sure every character was properly written. If the slightest error was made in writing a character, that particular page was thrown away and the scribes wrote a replacement page. This attitude of precision was evident in the teaching of living history and also in the recording God's word on parchment. Even today, after the dead sea scrolls were discovered and those manuscripts compared with today's Pentateuch, Talmud and Torah scriptures, the message of the scriptures remained in tact over hundreds and hundreds of years. God has always preserved His word for the posterity of mankind.
In post-flood times Noah was the oldest man on the earth. He was the one to whom his descendents went to gain wisdom and seek guidance. Noah had great favor with God and all post-flood descendents were aware of his status with God. Noah, the eldest of his people after the flood, was ruler of his generations in post-flood times for as long as he lived. Noah taught and instructed his descendents in righteousness until the day he died. Noah preserved the original language, as he was the reference and source of pre-flood living history.
Additionally, Genesis chapter 10 outlines the nations of the earth according to the bloodlines of Noah's sons, Ham, Japheth and Shem. All of Noah's sons and their descendents still spoke only one language. Genesis 11:1-9 describes God scattering the people of Babel by confusing the language. Therefore, bloodline groups were formed by new languages. The descendents of Ham spoke a different language and the descendents of Japheth spoke a different language and scattered throughout the middle east and northern Africa according to their language. But, Shem and Noah still spoke the original language of pre-flood times. This language also kept the bloodline of Shem together. Shem's descendents later became known as the Semites (known as Israelites today).
Genesis 11:9-10 (KJV) - Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. (10) These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old,.......
Verse 9 speaks of scattering the people according to their language. Verse 10 speaks of the beginning of recording the genealogy of Shem, which introduces Abram into the historical narrative in Genesis 11:26. Since Abram was a resident of Ur of the Chaldeens, which is located on the Euphrates River opposite of the city Babel; Noah, Shem and Abram remained in the general area and did not spread to other far away places. It appears God kept Noah, Shem and Abram's locality, language and bloodline intact for a special purpose - the covenant promise and the establishment of the nation of Israel.
Abram was there listening to Noah. Abram was fifty years old when Noah died. So, Abram heard the account of Genesis directly from Noah and Abram believed in God. Twenty five years after Noah's death God called Abram. At that time Abram was seventy five years old. As a descendent of Noah and the Seth blood line, Abram, like all others before him, spoke the language of God. If he spoke the language of God, then his sons Ishmael and Isaac also spoke the language. So did Isaac's children, Esau and Jacob. God changed Jacob's name to Israel, therefore the language was preserved and spoken by the twelve sons of Jacob (the nation of Israel). Thus, the Mosaic Law was written in God's language - Exodus 24:12 (KJV) - And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them. God wroth the law on the tables of stone using His language. Therefore, if the Law and the Prophets is the language of God. If so, then the Law and the Prophets (Old Testament) is the voice of God spoken through Israel's ancestors, Moses and the prophets. The language and voice cannot be separated! Additionally, Christ did not speak of His own, He only spoke what the Father told him to speak. Therefore, the New Testament is also the voice of God through Christ Jesus. The Word of God (Bible) is the language and voice of God! It is alive (anointed) because everywhere it is read or spoken and by believing what God spoke, eternal life prevails. The Word of God has power to save those who believe - Romans 1:16 (KJV) - I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. God spoke and things were created by the power of His Word - Genesis 1:3 (KJV) - And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. The Word of God has creative power when spoken in faith by a heart fully committed to Him. It is most important to see the Word of God as the voice of God. So, when one with a heart fully committed and devoted to Him, speaks the Word of God, God speaks through him.
The Bible stands alone from other religious books because it is the voice of God spoken by divine inspiration through His many prophets over many years. God's Word was first spoken in the open to the ancestors of the Jews, then at later various times was recorded by the prophets for the posterity of Israel. The Bible uniquely is the language and voice of God. No other religious book can compare to the Bible.
How did Darwin's "Origin of the Species" Become a Scientific Book?
Intellectual men in their quest to understand life and it's origin have a desire to adopt theories which logically parallel what they observe in life. What is observed is filtered through their sense of rational reasoning. If they only believe in what can be seen and touched or what can be physically observed under microscopic analysis or by other types of observation, then they are not open to spiritual matters because spiritual things cannot be physically observed or sensed. When Adam fell into mortality through disobedience to God's command, his senses were opened, especially the eyes - Genesis 3:7. (See Effects of Sin Upon Man for an indepth study of Adam's senses after his fall).
Darwin's Origin of the Species was written 150 years ago, but wide acceptance did not occur until world intellectuals brought evolution to the forefront of academia as an alternative idea to the Bible's account of the beginning of creation. Eventually the theory of evolution of the species became the tangible standard for understanding the origin of life because it rationally appealed to their intellectual senses. Still today the intellectual secularists steadfastly cling to the idea of evolution and strive to gather evidence which can be used to support Darwin's theory. After man's great efforts and expense to disprove the theory of creation, evolution remains just a theory, but is accepted by educators as fact!
Why? Is there such an underlying motive for taking a theory and accepting evolution as fact? Does the unspiritual natural man desire to be only accountable to himself for the life he chooses to live? Otherwise, if he believes in life's creation by God then he must accept the fact that he will be held accountable to God for the life he lives. If he can find a sensible alternative to God then he can do and choose as he wills, not as God wills.
A sense of self and a self determined belief about life is the ultimate motivator for believing in evolution. The Bible directly contradicts self-centered philosophy as a perception for living life. Obedience to God's Law is dramatically different than obedience to man's laws because the Bible removes man as the ultimate center of life. Man's laws are important for mortal life, but God's Law is preeminent for immortal life.
How can a book (Origin of the Species) written only 150 years ago by a single person be more important to these men than the Bible, the oldest book known to man? The Bible has always been the top seller since it was written. It has never been out sold!! The Bible out sells all other books because it impacts the world more than any other book. The Bible sets the standard for real truth because those who read it believe it is the factual Word of God. For those who seek to know God, the words of God are spirit breathed into the mind of man and under this anointing he begins to transform his thinking about spiritual matters. No other words of any other book have this spiritual anointing from God. This anointing creates an underlying affection for the Bible.
Well, to help direct your path in your quest to seek true wisdom, I offer this short defense of the Bible as being the only true Word from God. Most books of other religions were written by one man in a secluded place claiming to have heard from god or god's angel(s). These books are based on the testimony of one man's revelation and experience with his god. Books written by one man, in seclusion with no other witnesses, no historical account of the beginning, no account of God's involvement with man since the beginning and no archeological evidence supporting God's history with man.
On the other hand, the Bible is configured by sixty-six books written by forth five different authors over a period of two thousand years with a comprehensive accounting of God's involvement with the Israelites. Additionally, God spoke His message through the Old Testament and New Testament prophets was spoken out in the open many years before documentation occurred. Meaning, man's faith in Jehovah God of Israel existed long before documentation began. No other author of any other book can make this claim.
Isaiah 45:18-19 (KJV) - For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. (19) I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
Only God could inspire writing of the Bible over such a long period of time, through so many prophets. The Bible prophetically declares the future and then fulfills all prophecy tieing all the books together in a cohesive presentation of Messiah, whom God sent to deliver mankind from darkness. Then He made the Bible the most cherished and popular book of all times. Additionally, the Bible is mostly prophetic in its narrative structure, a most unique characteristic.
I encourage each spiritual seeker to be careful when accepting messages of revelation from one man (around which a religion was founded) concerning what his god has declared. Prior to accepting any non-biblical idea of truth, Investigate the uniqueness of the Bible's origins. The Bible merits everyone's sincere investigation, seeking to learn life's truth.
Is Christ the Word of God?
John 1:1(KJV) - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 (KJV) - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Is Christ the Son of God?
In the Old Testament the birth of Jesus was prophesied by Isaiah in - Isaiah 7:14 (KJV) - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. This prophecy declares that Immanuel (Jesus) will be born of a woman and He will be "God with us". He will be the Son of God.
"Immanuel" (Brown Driver & Briggs Hebrew Lexicon) #6005 'Immanuw'el = "God with us" or "with us is God".
In the New Testament Isaiah's prophecy was fulfilled in - Matthew 1:21-23 (KJV) - And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (22) Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, (23) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Before Jesus' death on the cross, His was "God with Us". After His death on the cross, He was "God in us" - 1 John 4:12-13 (KJV) - No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. (13) Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. Think about it! First He was with us and after His resurrection He is in us! Amazing!! This is the miracle of salvation - God has breathed His Holy Spirit into us once again, even as He breathed His Spirit (breath of life) into Adam and Adam became a living soul. Through the cross God has saved us by the shedding of His own blood. If Jesus is the Son of God, then His blood is the blood of God. God's blood was shed for the forgiveness of sin through His Son, reconciling us to the Father. Therefore, God the Father, God the Holy Spirit and God the Son (Jesus) are one - the Triune Godhead. God died that we may live (overcome death and the grave)!
Jesus is the Way God comes to man and indwells his soul. Therefore, Jesus is the intermediary between God and man.
The Breath of God Gives Eternal Life
Genesis 2:7 (KJV) - And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul.
"Formed" - (Strong's Concordance - Hebrew) #3335 yatsar (yaw-tsar'); probably identical with #3334 (through the squeezing into shape); to mold into a form; especially as a potter; figuratively, to determine (i.e. form a resolution).
God's forming of Adam from the elements of the earth was done to provide Adam with a physical and habitable earthly dwelling. A living organism composed and molded from elements of the earth and suitable for the indwelling Spirit of God. Man's purpose is to be a habitable dwelling for God.
"Became a living soul" - Adam had a soul. But Adam's soul had no power to live eternally until God imparted Himself into Adam. When Adam sinned he turned from God and no longer could receive the breath of life. Eventually, Adam died. In other words, Adam became a mortal. He still had his soul, but no power to live eternally. Adam had a spirit because he is spirit driven, but his spirit became an unregenerate self-centered spirit. But, once again, God has provided a Way man can be empowered to be an adopted son and live eternally.
Note: The author believes there will never be a time in man's life (now and eternally) when he is not spirit-driven, because the spirit has preeminence in life. Man cannot occupy a place where he is not driven by the Holy Spirit or mortal spirits of darkness. If there was a place where Adam could exist and not be driven by one spirit or the other, he would be in a sovereign place of his own. He would then be a god and he will die as a mortal. Man cannot be a god! He can only be a mortal apart from the saving grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Is Jesus Our Savior?
John 3:16-18 (KJV) - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.(17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.(18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. If man fails to believe Christ Jesus is the Son of God, he dies as a mortal!
What Must I Do to Be Saved?
Acts 2:21 (KJV) - And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Salvation is a Confession of Faith, Justification is by the Heart
Romans 10:9-10 (KJV) - For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
What is the Work I Should Do After I Have Accepted Christ as Lord and Savior?
John 6:27-29 (NIV) - Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval." (28) Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" (29) Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
A Prayer For Salvation -
"Dear heavenly Father, I come to you confessing that I am a sinner. Please forgive my sins and set me free from the darkness in my life. I believe Jesus is your Son and He died to pay my sin debt and by the power of His resurrection, I am a new creation born of you by the indwelling Holy Spirit. I am asking you to be the Lord of my life and guide me in ways to live a new Christian life in the presence of others, so that I might bring glory to Christ Jesus for the free gift of righteousness. Help me to learn His ways that I might be found approved and pleasing to you. Help me in the growth of my faith. In Jesus name I ask these things." Amen! Hallelujah!
Do Not Doubt the Indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit
After your acceptanceof Christ Jesus as the Son of God, Lord and Savior of your life, you may not sense the presence of the Holy Spirit. So, I offer an explanation for the truth of His presence.
1) God tells us the Holy Spirit is given to new believers as a deposit from Him - 2 Corinthians 5:4-5 (NIV) - For while we are in this tent (body), we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. (5) Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
So, we know we are born of God because God tells us we are born of Him through faith in Christ - 1 John 5:1 (KJV) - Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child (Jesus) as well.
2) Moses couldn ot sense the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit after he spent forty days on the mountain with God receiving the ten commandments - Exodus 34:29-35 (NIV) - When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. (30) When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. (31) But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. (32) Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai. (33) When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. (34) But whenever he entered the LORD's presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, (35) they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.
Moses was not aware that his face was so radiant with the power of the Holy Spirit. Why? Because he felt normal! God created each person to be filled with His Spirit. So, do not doubt God's Word!! Each person that believes and lives a life of faith in Christ Jesus is annointed by God to empower him to follow Jesus. We cannot live the Christian life in our own own will and strength!
Know this, God has made you and adopted child, born of Him because He indwells your heart! Praise Him for His grace and mercy given to you!! Amen!
Rejoice always in your new life, even in the times of the testing of your faith.
